PREVENTIVE MEDICINE GETS BOOST
IN TITLE VII BILL
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY)
introduced legislation endorsed by the College November 19 with a
substantial increase in the Title VII authorization amount for
preventive medicine residency training programs and public health
training centers. The bill would authorize $16 million annually
for FY 2009 and beyond. This is a significant legislative victory
for ACPM, which worked closely with Sen. Clinton's office on the
relevant section of the bill, that aligns closely with ACPM's
longstanding and vocal advocacy for increased federal support for
preventive medicine residency training programs.

benefit (an approach often taken in other
health reform plans). Many of the ideas
espoused in Sen. Baucus' Call to Action
came directly from ACPM representatives
who met with his office throughout the
summer to provide input.
